The Central Asian Respiratory School is a Kyrgyz-Swiss faculty development programme for educators in respiratory medicine. Training combines clinical work in Bishkek with collaborative development of EPA-based teaching modules. CARS is part of the Kyrgyz-Swiss High-Altitude Medicine and Research Initiative.

2nd CARS Workshop on Education in Respiratory Medicine

Bishkek, Mountain Retreat & Alay, Kyrgyzstan

Two-week programme for CARS Fellows: clinical rounds in Bishkek, mountain retreat for module development, residents symposium, and outreach day in the Alay highlands.

The 2nd CARS Workshop builds on the experiences of the inauguration symposium and the 1st Workshop held in November 2025. Following the vision and mission elaborated in 2025, the workshop focuses on further development of teaching skills of participants as future leaders in education of respiratory physicians in Central Asia. Modules for teaching in Entrusted Professional Activities (EPA) according to international standards of evidence-based medicine are developed and adapted to the specific needs of the local population and available resources. The modules include discussion of clinical vignettes, theoretical knowledge and practical skills, assessments and practice sessions with residents in respiratory medicine. **Programme structure** - Apr 11 — Introduction and topic presentation (Bishkek) - Apr 13–17 — Daily clinical rounds and outpatient consultations (Bishkek) - Apr 20–24 — Mountain retreat: elaboration of teaching modules (Mountain Retreat) - Apr 25 — Symposium for residents in respiratory medicine (Bishkek) - Apr 28 — Outreach day for health practitioners in the Alay highlands (Alay) **Faculty leads** - Prof. Konrad E.
